padel tennis plans for the saffrons

We have submitted a planning application for padel tennis courts at The Saffrons. The plans include an extension to the clubhouse and additional parking and are part of our strategic plan to secure the Club’s future as a home to sport in the town with facilities for the community.

If approved, the new padel tennis courts will be a first in the Eastbourne and Lewes District area and the only dedicated centre along the south coast.

Padel tennis combines squash and tennis. Played on an enclosed court approximately a third of the size of a tennis court, it’s great for mixed abilities and all ages. The game is fun, easy to learn and extremely sociable leading to it being one of the fastest growing sports.

It is envisaged that it will be available to all on a pay and play basis at affordable prices with membership plans also on offer to give additional benefits. These may include reduced court booking fees, priority court booking and discounts on padel equipment to hire or buy.

According to Roger Myall, chairman of The Saffrons Sports Club, “As a charity, our key objective is to support and subsidise sport for the local community whilst promoting wellbeing through physical activity. In the current climate, with reducing participation across many team sports and rising costs, the club’s committee feels that the best way to sustain sport here is by offering complementary sports and activities which can contribute financially. Padel tennis is an incredibly inclusive sport played by people of all ages and abilities, making it an ideal fit to help us achieve our goals.”
